Fedex Ship Manager Retirement in Magento

Posted by: Karen Thursday, May 17th, 2012

From May 31st 2012 if you are running CE/EE Magento on versions CE1.5.x or less or EE1.10.x or less you will no longer be able to get Fedex Shipping Rates.

If this seems like a big statement, well it is. Fedex are switching to a Web Service based approach and if you aren’t on CE1.6/EE1.11+ then you are in trouble.

WebShopApps has built an extension which integrates with Fedex Web Services to get around this issue. You will need to get a Fedex Web Service Account though, so it’s not simply a plug/play fix. The details are covered in our blog on Fedex Shipping in 1.6 Magento.

The extension is a subset of our highly popular Dimensional Shipping extension which allows you to add dimensions to products, ship certain items in separate packages and offers many other features a lot of retailers require in order to get accurate shipping rates.

Although the extension is free, please be aware it’s offered unsupported, if you want the expert advice from WebShopApps and a seamless transition we encourage you to purchase a support and installation package.

This extension is no longer distributed and is now covered in our Dimensional Shipping extension

Thanks for the info, and the free extension. I just happened to have purchased the Dimensional Shipping extension from you just a few days ago for a 1.4 site, however it’s not clear to me what you mean when you say the extension is a subset of the Dimensional Shipping extension. Are you saying that I wouldn’t need to install your free FedEx extension if I have the Dimensional Shipping extension installed? Or do I still need to install the free FedEx extension as well?

    Thanks!

This doesn’t work in Magento ver. 1.5.1.0

  3. Karen says:

Its been fully qualified against 1.5.1.0, we wouldnt release if it didnt work.

  4. Karen says:

If you have our Dimensional Shipping extension you don’t need this one.

I have installed the free extension 1.2.3 (stable) (many thanks btw) on our 1.5.1 Site using Magento connect Manager. It works well up to a point…

Smartpost Rates don’t show up. Likely because I don’t see an entry for the separate Smartpost account number required by Fedex in the backend settings.

Is this something Fedex changed after the release of your extension or am I missing something?

  6. Karen says:

SmartPost is not supported in this version, it is extended functionality. We do have Smartpost support in our Dimensional Shipping extension.
